Netflix Documentary Revisits Astroworld Tragedy That Left 10 Dead

HOUSTON, Texas — A new Netflix documentary revisits the tragic crowd crush at the Astroworld Festival, which left ten people dead in November 2021. Titled “Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy,” the documentary premiered on June 10, 2025, and includes interviews with survivors and families of the victims.
The disaster occurred during rapper Travis Scott‘s performance on November 5, 2021, when a massive surge of fans pushed toward the stage at NRG Park in Houston. The sold-out event, organized by Live Nation, had about 50,000 attendees. Eight victims lost their lives that night; two more died later from injuries sustained in the crush.
Survivor Sophia Santana shared her harrowing experience, saying, “I just remember thinking, ‘Don’t fall down, because you won’t make it back up.’” The youngest victim, Ezra Blount, was only 9 years old. Many family members have spoken out since the tragedy, lamenting their loss.
Scott maintained he was unaware of the chaos unfolding in the crowd. Safety expert Scott Davidson highlighted that attendees were trapped due to the stage’s layout, stating, “All 10 victims who died were on the left side of the stage.” Despite pleas from the audience to stop the concert, authorities delayed intervention for over an hour.
According to the medical examiner, all ten deaths were caused by compression asphyxiation, leading to ten wrongful death civil suits against Scott and others, all of which were settled privately. In 2023, a grand jury did not return any criminal charges related to the tragedy.
Throughout the documentary, survivors share their experiences. One concertgoer, Ayden, recounted the panic during the performance, struggling to help his friend, Brianna Rodriguez, who later died in the hospital. Another attendee, Arturo, voiced his conflicting feelings about Scott, expressing a sense of loss and disappointment.
Scott has publicly acknowledged the tragedy, stating how it impacted him deeply and that he wishes he could have done more to prevent it. “Those fans were like my family,” he said, reflecting on the emotional toll of the event.
The documentary aims to shed light on the safety failures at the festival, prompting discussions on crowd management procedures at large events, as families of victims continue to seek justice and accountability.
