Yulissa Escobar Receives Death Threats Following Racist Slur Controversy

MIAMI, Fla. — Yulissa Escobar revealed on Instagram Friday that she has been receiving death threats after videos resurfaced of her using a racial slur. The former contestant of “Love Island USA” expressed her frustration with cancel culture, stating it only breeds online bullying.
In her Instagram post, the 27-year-old real estate professional said, “People swear cancel culture is about accountability. But now it’s just viral hate. Packaged for likes. Twisted into clickbait.” She also clarified that the video in question was recorded in 2021, not 2024, as some claimed.
Escobar shared that she had been targeted with messages telling her to kill herself, describing the online treatment as abuse disguised as activism. “Cyberbullying is violence. Period,” she wrote, emphasizing that there is a real person behind the screen with feelings and a family.
She reflected on the impact of her past actions, stating, “This isn’t ‘woke.’ It’s abuse. You guys forget there’s a real person behind the screen. With feelings, a family, a daughter, a sister, a future. And some people don’t survive this kind of hate. That’s the scariest part.” Escobar urged her followers to consider the human side of cancel culture.
Previously, Escobar apologized for her past behavior, acknowledging that her use of the slur was ignorant and harmful. She has since claimed to be growing and healing, reiterating, “One mistake does not define a human. And that moment? Was four years ago. I’ve clearly grown, and I’m just getting started.” The backlash she faced for her resurfaced comments appears to have led to lasting feelings about her removal from the reality dating show.
Despite the negativity aimed at her, Escobar stated she will continue to share her story and not allow this experience to define her. “For the ones who are scared to speak — I got you. And for myself — because I’m done staying quiet,” she concluded.
