Summer Events Heat Up This Weekend in San Diego

San Diego, California — This weekend, the city kicks off summer with a variety of exciting events. From food festivals to cultural celebrations, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

This Sunday marks the annual Scoop San Diego Ice Cream Festival, set to take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on 30th Street between University Avenue and Gunn Street. This year, attendees can sample ice cream, gelato, and paletas from over 30 vendors, while 100% of the net proceeds support the local nonprofit ProduceGood. Tickets are priced at $50 for general admission and $125 for VIP access.

Also this weekend, food enthusiasts can visit the California Wine Festival at the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort Golf Club & Spa in Carlsbad. The festival offers wine tasting, food pairing, and live music. It runs Friday evening from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. Tickets range from $85 to $235.

The Louisiana-based event returns with the Kona Kai’s annual luau this Saturday, featuring a buffet-style island feast and live music. Guests can purchase tickets for between $39.19 and $139.49, which includes a tropical cocktail upon arrival.

In honor of Juneteenth, several events are scheduled. The Oceanside community will host its annual multicultural celebration from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, featuring live performances, vendor markets, and activities for children. Admission is free.

The Wu-Tang Clan, one of hip-hop’s most iconic groups, will perform at the Pechanga Arena on Saturday as part of their farewell tour. The concert starts at 8 p.m. and tickets range from $67 to $269.

Meanwhile, the San Diego Black Artist Collective will celebrate Black cultural contributions and expression with a series of events throughout the weekend at Diversionary Theatre in University Heights. Programming includes theatrical performances and community showcases.

As summer officially begins, locals and visitors alike can enjoy the diverse offerings throughout San Diego this weekend.
