Exciting Quarterfinals at Mallorca Championships Set for Thursday

MALLORCA, Spain – The Mallorca Championships will feature two all-seeded matchups in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Among the highlighted players is Canada’s Gabriel Diallo, who will face Tallon Griekspoor in their second career meeting.
The match comes after Griekspoor defeated Diallo at the French Open earlier this month, winning in four sets. Diallo, ranked 41st, is looking to turn the tables on Griekspoor, who is the No. 4 seed and ranked 34th in the world. Diallo has been in impressive form, recently claiming his first ATP title in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and advancing in Mallorca by beating Jaume Munar and Laslo Djere.
Griekspoor started his campaign in Mallorca with a straight-sets win over Ethan Quinn, after receiving a bye in the first round. This is Griekspoor’s first tournament since retiring due to an abdominal injury in the fourth round of Roland Garros. Despite facing challenges, insiders believe Diallo could upset his higher-ranked opponent.
In the other quarterfinal, American Alex Michelsen, who is ranked 33rd, will take on Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut, the No. 7 seed. Bautista Agut has been a solid presence on grass, racking up wins against Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Bernard Tomic to reach this stage.
Michelsen reached the quarters after defeating Brandon Holt and will be looking for another victory after coming off a first-round bye. At just 20 years old, he has made waves with 19 grass court wins since turning pro in 2022.
Bautista Agut is the last remaining Spaniard in the tournament, as both Munar and Pedro Martinez lost early on. With only a few Spanish players featuring in the main draw, Bautista Agut aims to fly the flag high for his country.
Each matchup promises excitement, with Diallo and Michelsen providing a potential upset against their seasoned opponents.
