Eagles Rook Jihaad Campbell Embraces Versatility Amid Training Camp Challenges

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Eagles rookie Jihaad Campbell is thriving under the pressure of learning multiple positions during training camp. The first-round draft pick from Alabama is determined to showcase his versatility, even as Eagles head coach Vic Fangio acknowledged the demands placed on him.
“I mean, why not?” Campbell said Thursday about his diverse training. “I think my game is very brilliant. I love to just keep sharpening up everything that I can utilize on the field.”
Drafted 31st overall, Campbell began as an inside linebacker due to the position’s complexity; however, his potential as a pass rusher remains a topic of conversation. Fangio has emphasized that there is more to learn at inside linebacker. It appears that Campbell might start in the season opener.
All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun, known for his own versatility, pointed out the challenges that come with being a multi-skilled player. “It sounds like a great thing… but it’s a blessing and a curse,” Baun remarked earlier this spring. “As much as he can handle and put on his plate, I’m sure Vic’s going to push that.”
Indeed, Fangio has been pushing Campbell, and Campbell has accepted the challenge. “This is what you get drafted for,” said Campbell. “Every job ain’t no hard job… it’s more about putting it to the test.”
During a joint practice with the Browns, Campbell had opportunities to rush the passer. While he usually drops into coverage as an inside linebacker, he impressed observers with his performance. His athleticism and physicality were evident, giving him a chance to shine as he refines his pass-rushing skills.
To enhance his performance, Campbell is proactive in developing his own routines. “Finding a way to achieve more and to want more for yourself… that’s the biggest thing,” he explained.
On the field, Campbell’s confidence is unmistakable. “Confidence builds character,” he stated. “When I come out here, I’m way more confident than I was yesterday.”
While Campbell is not always aware of his specific role during practices, he remains adaptable and ready for anything. “I’m just sharpening up my [tools],” he commented. “Anything that will help the team. That’s the biggest goal.”
