Jakobi Meyers Requests Trade from Raiders Amid Contract Negotiations

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers has reportedly requested a trade as the NFL season approaches, citing unsuccessful contract negotiations with the Las Vegas Raiders. Meyers, 28, is entering the final year of his three-year contract worth $33 million, which he signed in 2023.
Last season, Meyers had a breakout performance, recording 87 catches for 1,027 yards and four touchdowns, making him the Raiders’ top wide receiver. Despite his success, he is unhappy with his current contract, which pays him a base salary of $10.76 million this year. Sources say the two sides attempted to negotiate a new deal, but their discussions did not result in an agreement.
NFL Media reports that the Raiders have no plans to trade Meyers due to his significant role in the team’s offense. The franchise views him as too valuable, especially with new additions to the coaching staff, including head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek.
Meyers began his career with the New England Patriots after going undrafted in 2019. He played with the Patriots for four seasons before joining the Raiders. He has consistently produced impressive stats, crossing the 800-yard mark in receiving for four consecutive seasons.
Despite the Raiders’ confidence in Meyers’ abilities, the wide receiver seems eager to find a team that will meet his financial expectations. As the season nears, both sides will have to navigate this tense situation. Meyers has expressed a preference to play elsewhere if his contract cannot be adjusted in his favor.
