Jett Luchanko Focuses on Training as Flyers Camp Begins

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Jett Luchanko is maintaining a clear focus as he heads into training camp with the Flyers. The 19-year-old prospect, a first-round pick in 2024, can either secure a spot on the NHL roster this season or return to the OHL to play for the struggling Guelph Storm.
After a mixed 2024-25 season that included time with the Flyers, Canada’s U20 team at the World Junior Championships, and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Luchanko is determined to approach each day with the same work ethic. “Just a lot of the same as last year. Just come to the rink every day and work hard,” he said on Friday.
The Flyers kicked off their 2025 training camp on Thursday, aiming to ramp up competition for roster spots. With new head coach Rick Tocchet at the helm, the atmosphere is markedly different. Tocchet shared his coaching philosophy about pairing forwards, drawing inspiration from legendary coach Scotty Bowman.
“I think Scotty Bowman was a genius behind the bench,” Tocchet remarked. “You have pairs and you can always rotate a guy in and out as the third guy.” This strategy is intended to foster chemistry among players, a crucial aspect for success in the NHL.
Luchanko, who previously made the Flyers roster and played regular-season games, is now paired with Owen Tippett and Alexis Gendron in early camp skates. Despite his past experiences, he remains focused on improving his game without worrying about competition for spots.
Injuries have challenged Luchanko recently. He previously dealt with a groin injury that limited his time during the development and rookie camps. But he remains optimistic, knowing that a lot can change in the NHL.
As the Flyers emphasize fostering talent among younger players, Luchanko is ready to earn his spot once again. With leadership staff committed to giving young prospects a fair chance, the coming days will prove critical.
“It’s never going to be easy to make a team like this, so I kind of just take it day by day,” Luchanko noted. His mindset reflects the maturity that attracts the Flyers to him as a player.
