Nakobe Dean Philadelphia Eagles Linebacker

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Nakobe Dean, linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles, has yet to play a snap this season due to injury and will not be eligible to return until at least Week 5. Despite this setback, Dean remains a vital presence on the Eagles’ defense.

“It’s like I’m playing with him but not playing with him,” said All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun. “He’s super engaged. For someone to be out and not out there on the field, it’s impressive how engaged he is.”

Dean, 24, was performing at a high level last season before he injured his patellar tendon during the wild-card round against the Green Bay Packers in January. Currently, he is on the Physically Unable to Perform list, which prevents him from participating in games until at least the upcoming match against the Broncos. However, Dean continues to support his teammates in many ways.

“He’s a major resource for us,” said second-year linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. “Even though he’s injured, he’s been more vocal than he already was.” Dean participates in meetings, practices, and even traveled with the team during their Week 2 match against Kansas City.

Dean’s contributions extend beyond just physical training. Rookie first-round pick Jihaad Campbell emphasized Dean’s impact, saying, “He sees everything from the sidelines that we might not see during a game.” Campbell also noted Dean assists in areas like blitzing and gap responsibilities.

Though Dean’s recovery timeline remains uncertain, his teammates regard him as an experienced leader. “That dude helps me like every single day,” Baun said. “He’s been playing the linebacker position for his entire life.”

As the Eagles navigate through the season, Dean’s continued engagement has fostered a strong team dynamic. “His presence is always felt,” Campbell added. “I’m very excited for him to get back soon.” Although Dean faces stiff competition from Baun and Campbell for his former starting role upon return, his impact on and off the field is undisputed.
