Alcaraz and Fritz Set to Shine at 2025 Japan Open
Tokyo, Japan — The 2025 Japan Open Tennis Championships starts on September 24 and runs through September 30 at Ariake Tennis Forest Park. Top players, including World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz and former US Open runner-up Taylor Fritz, will compete in this ATP 500 event.
This tournament, established in 1972, plays a crucial role in the men’s tennis calendar as part of the Asian swing. The event includes a main draw of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams, with matches held on outdoor hard courts and over $416,000 in prize money for the winner.
Defending champion Arthur Fils of France will not return this year due to an injury. In men’s doubles, British duo Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool are expected to defend their title.
In the singles draw, top seed Alcaraz will kick off his campaign against Argentina’s Sebastian Baez, boasting a 2-0 record against him in their previous meetings. Alcaraz could face Zizou Bergs in the Round of 16 and Frances Tiafoe in the quarterfinals. A potential final showdown against Fritz is on the horizon.
Fifth-ranked Fritz faces a tough opening match against Gabriel Diallo of Canada, who has been ranked in the Top 35. He is likely to encounter Nuno Borges and fifth seed Tomas Machac in subsequent rounds, with Alcaraz potentially waiting in the semifinals.
The tournament is expected to be thrilling, with a range of broadcast options available, including TennisTV as the official streaming platform for ATP events.
