Tony Hawk Skateboard Auction

Los Angeles, CA – Tony Hawk‘s skateboard, which he famously used to land a 900 in competition, sold for a record $1.152 million at an auction on Wednesday. Julien's Auctions conducted the sale, and the final price nearly doubled the initial estimate.

The auction took place in Los Angeles, allowing in-person and online bids. The identity of the purchaser remains unknown. Hawk, 57, attended the event and previously expressed hopes that the buyer would appreciate the skateboard’s significance.

“I hope that it’s someone that truly appreciates it or that that event or that object meant something to them and it’s not just a flex because they have the money,” Hawk said. “I would be stoked if it’s someone that had a connection to skating or that maybe they’re going to display it somewhere for other people to see.”

Alongside the skateboard, other items related to the 900 were auctioned, including Hawk’s helmet, which sold for $115,200, his sneakers for $64,000, and kneepads for $57,600. Additional memorabilia from Hawk’s career was also featured in the auction.

The proceeds from the auction will benefit The Skatepark Project, a nonprofit organization founded by Hawk that aims to build skate parks in underserved communities. Hawk pioneered the sport, landing the 900 during the X Games in San Francisco in June 1999 and has since won a remarkable 10 X Games gold medals.

This auction marks a significant moment in sports memorabilia, highlighting both Hawk’s influence in skateboarding and the growing interest in collectibles.
