LOS ANGELES, CA — Sony Pictures has officially announced the release date and title for Aaron Sorkin’s follow-up to the acclaimed 2010 film ‘The Social Network.’ The new film, titled ‘The Social Reckoning,’ is set to hit theaters on October 9, 2026.

The cast emerged over the summer, featuring strong talents including Oscar nominee Jeremy Strong as Mark Zuckerberg, Oscar winner Mikey Madison as whistleblower Frances Haugen, and two-time Emmy winner Jeremy Allen White as Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz. Bill Burr, known for his roles in ‘Old Dads’ and ‘The King of Staten Island,’ is also part of the cast.

Sorkin, who won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for the original film, will write and direct this new project. He produces alongside Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart Besser. The film aims to explore the darker aspects of Facebook’s impact on society through Haugen’s collaboration with Horwitz, culminating in a whistleblowing event that revealed the company’s awareness of its harms.

The release date of ‘The Social Reckoning’ coincides with the Indigenous Peoples’ Day weekend, a strategic choice anticipated to attract adult audiences seeking dramatic content during the fall film season.

The first film, ‘The Social Network,’ grossed over $226 million worldwide and garnered eight Academy Award nominations, winning three, including Best Adapted Screenplay for Sorkin. It provided a launching pad for actors like Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield, making notable impacts in Hollywood.

‘The Social Reckoning’ offers a continuation of the story nearly two decades after the original, shifting from the rise of Facebook to the accountability for its consequences. The anticipation surrounding its release reflects ongoing discussions about the societal effects of social media today.

With its timely subject matter and a talented cast, ‘The Social Reckoning’ is poised to make a significant impact in theaters come October 2026.
