BRONX, New YorkGiancarlo Stanton celebrated emphatically after hitting a crucial three-run double that secured the New York Yankees’ 5-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night. The win keeps the Yankees in a deadlock with the Toronto Blue Jays atop the American League East with only three games remaining in the season.

Stanton’s game-winning hit came in the bottom of the fifth inning, giving the Yankees their lead after falling behind 3-1 earlier in the match. After first baseman Carlos Rodón allowed a two-run homer to Michael A. Taylor in the fourth, Stanton brought life back to the team with a bases-clearing double against reliever Tyler Gilbert.

“It’s understood what we need to do,” Stanton said after the game. His performance boosted his RBI total to 59 in just 74 games this season.

Manager Aaron Boone praised Stanton’s contributions, highlighting his significant impact on the Yankees’ batting order. “He’s just gotten a lot of big hits for us…His presence in the middle of our order is big,” Boone said.

With their latest victory, the Yankees remain in position for a playoff berth, now guaranteed at least the top Wild Card spot. The Red Sox’s loss helped the Yankees, allowing them to focus on the upcoming series against the Baltimore Orioles. Boone noted, “We need to try to win every game, and that’s our focus.”

Austin Wells added an insurance run with a seventh-inning double, while Rodón pitched six solid innings, recording five strikeouts in his last regular-season effort. He ended the season with an impressive 18-9 record and a 3.09 ERA.

“He’s obviously had a great season,” Boone stated regarding Rodón. The pitcher acknowledged the pressure of stepping up as a starter in place of injured ace Gerrit Cole, indicating, “It’ll be nice when we have him back.”

Stanton and his teammates will need to stay focused, with the playoff race tightening as they head into their final games of the regular season. “We’re playing well… good time to click. But we haven’t done anything tomorrow,” Stanton said.
