Ichiro Suzuki Makes Surprise Appearance During Mariners Scrimmage

SEATTLE, Wash. — Baseball Hall of Famer Ichiro Suzuki delighted fans with a special appearance during a Seattle Mariners scrimmage on Wednesday at T-Mobile Park.
Donning his iconic retired No. 51 jersey with “Ichiro” on the back, the 51-year-old played for the home team. His presence added excitement to the event, where tickets were priced at $10.
During the scrimmage, he even caught a popup in right field and celebrated with a trademark move reminiscent of teammate Julio Rodríguez‘s “no fly zone” celebration.
“Make a play, Ichi!” the Mariners tweeted, showcasing the legendary player’s return to the field.
Mariners pitcher Bryce Miller discussed Ichiro’s involvement, noting that he often participates in spring training and home games, fully geared up. “He takes it seriously,” Miller said. “He tries to get you out in there.”
Ichiro, who turns 52 on October 22, spent 14 successful seasons with the Mariners, earning 10 All-Star selections and winning MVP and Rookie of the Year honors in 2001. He holds various franchise records, including a .321 batting average, 2,542 hits, and 438 stolen bases.
While the Mariners retired his No. 51 in August, fans were thrilled to see him back in uniform during the scrimmage.
