David Ross Eager to Return as Braves’ Manager

ATLANTA, Georgia — David Ross, a former catcher for the Atlanta Braves and manager of the Chicago Cubs, expressed his enthusiasm for returning to the dugout while discussing the managerial vacancy left by Brian Snitker. In an interview with The Associated Press on Thursday, Ross shared that managing the Braves again “would be amazing.”
Ross, who hails from Bainbridge, Georgia, held a managerial record of 262-284 during his four seasons with the Cubs from 2020 to 2023. He led the team to the National League Central Division title in 2020, though they only made one playoff appearance under his leadership.
Snitker, 69, announced on Wednesday that he will not return for another season after ten successful years as the Braves’ manager. His tenure included seven straight playoff appearances, a world championship in 2021, and multiple division titles. Snitker ends his time with 811 wins and will remain with the club in an advisory role.
Ross, 48, enjoyed his playing years with the Braves from 2009 to 2012, where he was regarded as a respected leader in the clubhouse. “I loved my time there,” Ross said, recognizing that he is often mentioned in discussions about potential managerial candidates. He added, “Hopefully, my name pops up, but we will wait and see on that.”
At Wednesday’s press conference, Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos did not identify candidates to fill Snitker’s position. Speculation has pointed to various individuals, such as bench coach Walt Weiss and former Braves infielder Mark DeRosa as potential successors.
As the Braves prepare for their next chapter, the search for a new leader continues, with Ross’s name prominently mentioned among favorites to take the helm.
