MacIntyre Shines Amid Stormy Conditions at Alfred Dunhill Links Championship

Kingsbarns, Scotland
Home favorite Robert MacIntyre faced severe conditions at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, yet he emerged with a six-under-par 66, tying for the clubhouse lead. The second round was suspended due to worsening weather, leaving him and South Africa’s Richard Sterne at 12 under par.
MacIntyre’s performance included seven birdies and just one bogey. Starting from the 10th tee, he quickly established momentum by scoring birdies on the 11th, 12th, and 14th holes before weather conditions deteriorated.
“It was almost a perfect round of golf, especially once the weather came in. Just a lovely round,” MacIntyre said. “It’s hard to hit the ball good with the wind. I was having to fight the wind on certain holes but made some beautiful shots.”
Sterne, who opened with a bogey-free 67 at the Old Course, was joined at the top by MacIntyre despite the heavy rain and strong winds that affected play across three courses.
Louis Oosthuizen was a shot back with a 68, while Scott Jamieson and Tom McKibbin were tied in a large group at 10 under. Matt Fitzpatrick is two back at eight under.
Meanwhile, Nathan Kimsey made headlines by scoring nine consecutive birdies at the Old Course, becoming only the third player to achieve this feat in DP World Tour history.
The tournament features a $5 million prize fund, with the winner set to take home $800,000. Celebrity participants include former Wimbledon champion Andy Murray and actors Michael Douglas and Bill Murray.
Almost a third of the field will resume their second rounds at 08:00 BST on Saturday before the next phase begins with a shotgun start at 12:30.
