David Ortiz Fox Broadcast Controversy

NEW YORK, NY — MLB legend David Ortiz drew backlash after making a controversial comment during a live broadcast on Tuesday night. The remark came during Fox’s postgame show following the New York Yankees‘ dramatic 9-6 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

During the analysis, the crew discussed rookie right-hander Cam Schlittler‘s performance. When Ortiz was asked how to pronounce Schlittler’s name, he jokingly replied, ‘It sounds like Hitler,’ which prompted laughter from his co-hosts Derek Jeter and Kevin Burkhardt, yet left them visibly uncomfortable.

Jeter quickly tried to steer the conversation away, saying, ‘Alright, let’s go to a break, guys.’ Burkhardt added, ‘Papi, you just call him Cam,’ attempting to downplay the awkward moment. Ortiz continued with, ‘I’m going Cam. Don’t want to get in trouble.’

This incident has prompted a wave of criticism online. Fans reacted with a mix of confusion and sharp disapproval, labeling Ortiz’s comments as insensitive and urging for accountability. One user tweeted, ‘David Ortiz is the most awkward MLB presenter in the history of presenters.’ Another stated that the comment was ‘absolutely insensitive’ and suggested he should have faced more severe consequences.

Despite the controversy, the Yankees managed to keep their postseason hopes alive thanks to Aaron Judge‘s impressive performance. Judge drove in four runs, including a clutch tying home run in the fourth inning, contributing to the Yankees’ comeback from a 6-1 deficit.

The Yankees will face the Blue Jays again in a crucial Game 4, featuring Schlittler as starting pitcher against a Toronto bullpen game.
