San Diego State Aims for Fourth Straight Win Against Nevada
RENO, Nevada — The San Diego State Aztecs (4-1) will try to extend their winning streak to four games against the Nevada Wolf Pack (1-4) on Saturday night. The game kicks off at 10:30 p.m. ET at Mackay Stadium, airing on CBS Sports Network.
San Diego State heads into the matchup following a 45-24 victory over Colorado State, marking a strong start to their Mountain West Conference campaign. In that game, the Aztecs showcased their offensive strength, accumulating 540 total yards. Running back Byron Cardwell led the way with 129 rushing yards and a touchdown, while fellow back Lucky Sutton contributed with 113 yards and two scores. Quarterback Jayden Denegal also had an impressive performance, completing 13 of 16 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns.
In contrast, Nevada struggled in their last outing, falling to Fresno State 20-17. The Wolf Pack’s quarterback Carter Jones completed 11 of 15 passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Coach Sean Lewis acknowledged the challenge posed by Nevada’s talent despite their poor record, stating, “Don’t get it twisted. The record does not indicate or show how talented they are.”
San Diego State’s strong performance has them poised for a potential bowl appearance, needing just two more wins to qualify for their first bowl since 2022. They have not started a season 4-1 this strongly since 2021 when they went on to finish with a 12-2 record.
Both teams have a rich history of closely contested games, with five of the last six meetings decided by a single score. The Aztecs lead the all-time series against the Wolf Pack 9-7.
With multiple key injuries affecting Nevada, and the Aztecs riding high on momentum, this game will be key for both programs. Fans are encouraged to tune in and catch the action.
