49ers Coach Shanahan Updates Injuries Ahead of Sunday’s Game

San Francisco, California – Coach Kyle Shanahan provided updates on player injuries during a press conference on Friday, October 10, 2025, ahead of the 49ers’ upcoming game.
Shanahan reported that quarterback Brock Purdy is making strides in his recovery. “Really trying to rest it up,” Shanahan said. “Should be good to go on Sunday but definitely wasn’t good enough to go today. So, hopefully that will continue to improve.”
Relaying the atmosphere in practice, 39-year-old punter and holder Thomas Morstead praised the team’s kicker, Eddy Piñeiro. Morstead noted Piñeiro’s unique mix of calmness and intensity before each kick, stating, “I think Eddy is one of a kind. He doesn’t seem to be thinking about anything when he’s out there.”
The current 49ers squad bears striking similarities to the 2011 team, which also started the season against the Seattle Seahawks, ending with a 4-1 record. Both teams experienced some unglamorous wins early on. The 2011 squad included veterans like Alex Smith and Frank Gore, who provided guidance to the newer players.
Amidst their success, Shanahan addressed potential trades with the upcoming Nov. 4 trade deadline. “What increases my interest is who’s the guy that can absolutely help us get better this year without hurting us next year,” Shanahan said.
Shanahan also spoke about rookie interior lineman Alfred, highlighting an impressive effort during practice. “The amount of strain and individual effort that it took for him to split the double team was probably one of the coolest and most impressive individual efforts I’ve seen,” he remarked. “He loves this game, and he’s going to be a problem.”
As they prepare for Sunday’s matchup, the team looks to build on their strong start while carefully managing player recoveries.
