Celtics Cavaliers Game Highlights

BOSTON, Mass. — The Boston Celtics defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 138-107 at TD Garden on Sunday night in a convincing performance. Anfernee Simons led the Celtics with a game-high 21 points, hitting six of nine attempts from beyond the arc. Derrick White and Josh Minott each added 16 points, showcasing the Celtics’ offensive depth.

The Celtics shot 52.4 percent from the field and made 34 of 39 free throws. Conversely, the Cavaliers struggled without seven key rotation players, converting just 12 of 60 3-point attempts, resulting in a 20 percent shooting accuracy from long range.

Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla expressed frustration regarding his team’s defensive rebounding, noting they allowed 21 offensive rebounds. “I don’t see five guys rebound,” he stated in his postgame press conference. “Find five guys that will rebound. Rebound. Go. It’s that simple.”

White agreed with Mazzulla, emphasizing the necessity for the team to improve their rebounding efforts. “We have to find a way to get the rebounds, and that will fuel our offense,” he said. This issue was particularly evident as the Celtics allowed the Cavaliers too many second-chance opportunities during the game.

Despite the challenges, the Celtics demonstrated their fast-paced offensive philosophy, as Mazzulla reiterated his game plan. “Create two-on-ones, find the two-on-one,” he explained, stressing the importance of working together to generate the best shot possible.

Simons, who has previously started every game for the Trail Blazers, showcased his abilities coming off the bench. “I thought at first I was overthinking it,” he remarked, describing his transition to the team. He showed potential as a sharpshooter, highlighted by his strong start with 4 for 5 from 3-point range.

The Celtics’ offensive display, combined with their moments of defensive imperfection, indicates areas for growth as they continue to refine their strategies this season. In the meantime, they aim to build on their winning momentum.
