Bulls’ Buzelis Shines in Preseason Loss Against Bucks

CHICAGO, Ill. — Matas Buzelis impressed fans and critics alike during the Chicago Bulls’ 127-121 preseason loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday night at the United Center.
Facing off against NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo was a moment for Buzelis to shine, showcasing potential that has Bulls supporters hopeful for the future. Buzelis scored 19 points, shooting 6-for-11 and making 2-of-6 from three-point range. Antetokounmpo, returning from COVID-19, contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds.
“Matas has done a good job,” said Bulls head coach Billy Donovan. “We’re trying to put him in situations where he’s gonna have to grow defensively. This is part of his growth and maturation.”
Alongside Buzelis, several Bulls players made strong impressions. Patrick Williams added 10 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Ayo Dosunmu led all scorers with 22 points, looking sharp and ready for the regular season. “He was really, really good tonight,” Donovan added about Dosunmu.
Despite the encouraging performance, the game had its tensions. Dalen Terry was ejected after a heated moment with Bucks players that erupted into a brief confrontation. Terry expressed his feelings afterward, saying, “I can’t go home if I don’t defend myself. I’m a man before anything.”
In injury news, Bulls guard Kevin Huerter missed his second consecutive game due to a groin issue. Donovan noted, “We still want to be a little cautious.” Meanwhile, Julian Phillips, recovering from a sprained knee, is expected back before preseason concludes.
Before the game, the Bulls held a moment of silence for Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt, who passed away at 106. She was a beloved figure and chaplain for Loyola’s men’s basketball team.
