Frehley was known for his dynamic stage persona, often referred to as The Spaceman, and played a significant role in KISS’s rise to fame. He co-founded the band in New York City in 1973 with Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, and Peter Criss. KISS became famous for their theatrical performances and distinctive face paint, establishing a massive following and becoming one of the best-selling bands in history.
After leaving KISS in 1982 to pursue a solo career, Frehley rejoined the group in 1996 for a highly publicized reunion tour, remaining until 2002. In addition to his work with KISS, he formed his own band, Frehley’s Comet, and released several solo albums, including his most recent, “10,000 Volts,” in 2024.
The other KISS members expressed their sorrow, with Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons noting, “We are devastated by the passing of Ace Frehley. He was an essential and irreplaceable rock soldier during some of the most formative foundational chapters of the band and its history. He is and will always be a part of KISS’s legacy.”
