Geno VanDeMark’s Game-Time Decision as Alabama Faces South Carolina
Columbia, SC – The Alabama Crimson Tide will take on the South Carolina Gamecocks today, with the kickoff at 2:30 p.m. CT at Williams-Brice Stadium. A key player to watch is offensive lineman Geno VanDeMark, whose status is uncertain due to an undisclosed injury.
Initially listed as questionable, VanDeMark was upgraded to probable during the week, followed by a final classification as a game-time decision. Head coach Kalen DeBoer told the Crimson Tide Sports Network, “We’ll see,” adding that VanDeMark was limited in practice leading up to the game.
VanDeMark, a redshirt senior, is in his second season with Alabama after transferring from Michigan State, where he played in 18 games and made eight starts. He has emerged as a starter this season, primarily playing at right guard, and has been crucial for the Tide’s offensive line.
In addition to VanDeMark’s situation, Alabama will also be missing several players for this matchup. Linebackers Qua Russaw, Jah-Marien Latham, and Cayden Jones, along with wide receiver Lotzeir Brooks, tight end Danny Lewis Jr., and defensive lineman Jeremiah Beaman, have all been ruled out due to injuries.
Brooks’ absence will be felt as he ranks fourth on the team with 255 receiving yards. The team is expected to adapt with freshmen stepping in to fill the void, including Rico Scott and Ryan Williams.
With a record of 6-1, Alabama is currently ranked No. 4 and stands at 4-0 in SEC play. Meanwhile, South Carolina enters the game at 3-4 and 1-4 in the conference. This game represents a crucial opportunity for both teams as Alabama looks to extend its winning streak.
Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ABC.
