Jackson State Quarterback JaCobian Morgan Injured During HBCU Classic Against Grambling State
Las Vegas, NV — Jackson State starting quarterback JaCobian Morgan left the Las Vegas HBCU Classic with a lower leg injury. After consulting with medical staff, he was seen leaving the sidelines on crutches and in a medical walking boot. Reports indicate that Morgan will not return to the game.
Before his injury, Morgan had led the Tigers on a successful 10-play, 86-yard touchdown drive, giving Jackson State an early 7-0 lead over Grambling State in the first quarter. He completed 3 of 6 passes for 63 yards before exiting.
This season, Morgan has played in several games, throwing for 1,180 yards, 11 touchdowns, and two interceptions on 90 of 147 passing. He averaged 224.0 passing yards per game with an efficiency rating of 151.3 before the classic.
With Morgan sidelined, redshirt freshman Parker Stofa stepped in as the replacement quarterback. Stofa has currently completed 2 of 5 passes for 53 yards and rushed four times for 19 yards.
At halftime, Grambling State was trailing No. 14 Jackson State 10-9. Jackson State is set to face Florida A&M next at Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida, with the kickoff scheduled for 7 PM ET. If Morgan is unable to participate in the upcoming game against FAMU, Stofa is likely to continue as the starting quarterback under Coach TC Taylor’s direction.
Meanwhile, Alabama State secured a significant win against Alabama A&M, winning 56-13, improving to 5-2 overall and 3-1 within the SWAC.
