Alex Murdaugh Criticizes Hulu Series for Lacking Accuracy

BEAUFORT, South Carolina — Alex Murdaugh, the former attorney serving two life sentences for the murders of his wife and son, has publicly criticized the Hulu series “Murdaugh: Death in the Family” for its portrayal of his family. The limited series, which premiered on October 15, delves into the tragic events surrounding the 2021 deaths of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh.

Murdaugh’s legal team issued a statement expressing their client’s disappointment with the series. “He is deeply disappointed and disturbed by the recent Hulu streaming series about him and the entire Murdaugh family,” the statement read, asserting that the show contains numerous inaccuracies and misleading portrayals of their lives.

According to Murdaugh’s lawyers, the series misrepresents his relationships with Maggie and Paul, claiming the show distorts the truth of their family dynamics. “The depiction of their personal family dynamics is particularly troubling, as it totally mischaracterizes Alex’s relationships with his wife and son, both of whom Alex loves so dearly,” they stated.

The defense team emphasized that the show’s creators did not reach out to the Murdaugh family or any representatives while making the series. “No one from Hulu ever contacted Alex, his son Buster, or anyone in the Murdaugh family to verify the facts or hear their perspective,” they said.

After Maggie and Paul were shot near their home on June 7, 2021, Alex was convicted of their murders and is currently serving his sentences in a South Carolina prison. Dean of the criminal law school Mark Tinsley remarked, “It’s hard for people to compartmentalize the person they thought they knew from the reality of the situation.”u200b
