Virginia Cavaliers Thrive with Star QB Chandler Morris

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — The Virginia Cavaliers are making waves in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), fueled by the dynamic play of quarterback Chandler Morris. This season marks the team’s best run in 35 years, with Morris leading the charge.

Morris, whose father Chad is a well-known figure in football coaching, has deep roots in the sport. Chad Morris has coached at various levels, including high school and college. Although his college tenure faced challenges, he gained acclaim for his success at Lake Travis High School in Texas, winning back-to-back Texas 4A Championship titles and coaching NFL star Garrett Gilbert.

Chandler’s journey took a turn when he initially picked Arkansas as his college home, influenced by his father’s role as head coach. However, after Chad Morris was let go following a difficult season in 2019, Chandler regrouped and ultimately found a fit at Virginia after transient stints at Oklahoma and TCU.

While not much is publicly known about Paula Morris, Chandler’s mother, her influence has been significant. A former volleyball and track athlete, Paula has supported Chandler through every step, eventually becoming involved in recruiting for her husband’s teams, notably at Clemson.

“I had my doubts about him playing for his dad while recruiting,” Paula shared in an interview with Sports Illustrated. “But I have always been his biggest supporter.” Both Chad and Paula now attend every game to cheer on their son.

Chandler’s family remains supportive in various ways as they witness his growth. His older sister, Mackenzie, mirrors her father’s passion for athletics, serving as the Director of Recruiting at Ole Miss after ascending in college football recruitment. Her husband, Fisher Ray, is also involved in coaching as an assistant quarterback coach there.
