Ariana Grande Cynthia Erivo Wicked Musical

HOLLYWOOD, California — Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo reunited for “Wicked: One Wonderful Night,” a special that aired on NBC on November 6. The two-hour event celebrated the hit musical ahead of its sequel, “Wicked: For Good,” set to release on November 21.

The special was filmed at the Dolby Theatre in front of an enthusiastic audience adorned in elaborate costumes, some even sporting green paint to mimic their favorite characters. The highlight of the night was a performance featuring a 37-piece orchestra, adding a rich sound to beloved songs from “Wicked.”

Grande and Erivo delivered a captivating rendition of the song “For Good” alongside original cast members Kristen Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, who played Glinda and Elphaba respectively in the musical’s Broadway premiere. The emotional performance was met with cheers and tears from the audience, illustrating the connection fans have to the story and its characters.

Stephen Schwartz, the musical’s composer, accompanied the singers, allowing Grande and Erivo to infuse their unique styles into the arrangement. Their chemistry was palpable as they sang, drawing applause from a visibly moved crowd.

In addition to the songs, the special featured behind-the-scenes moments that did not make it to air. Audience members participated in choreography for the opening number, “No One Mourns the Wicked,” tossing flowers into the air as Grande took the stage.

The cast performed several songs twice to ensure the best takes were used. Notably, Erivo took to the air during “Defying Gravity,” completing the challenging number while suspended, showcasing her vocal prowess.

Grande and Erivo also introduced two new songs from the upcoming movie, “No Place Like Home” and “The Girl in the Bubble,” piquing the audience’s interest for the film’s release. “One Wonderful Night” not only offered a glimpse into the musical performances but also served as a platform for cast members to connect with fans.

“Wicked: One Wonderful Night” is now available to stream on Peacock, providing fans a chance to relive this magical evening in celebration of the beloved story.
