Daniel Jones Shines as Colts Surge to AFC South Lead
Indianapolis, IN — Daniel Jones is having a breakout season as the Indianapolis Colts start 7-2, securing the top spot in the AFC South. After being released by the New York Giants midway through last season, Jones signed with the Colts in March and has stunned fans with his impressive performance this year.
Jones has completed 69.6% of his pass attempts, throwing 14 touchdowns and leading the league with 2,404 passing yards. His resurgence has helped the Colts reach first place, marking one of the team’s best starts since 2020.
“Just excited for Daniel,” said former Colts quarterback Peyton Manning. “No one deserves it more, has worked harder… He was a sponge, wanted to learn and was very coachable.” The Colts are currently boasting the NFL’s highest scoring offense, with standout contributions from players like wide receivers Michael Pittman Jr. and Alec Pierce, tight end Tyler Warren, and running back Jonathan Taylor, who leads the league in rushing yards and touchdowns.
In addition, the Colts made a significant trade just before the deadline, acquiring cornerback Sauce Gardner from the New York Jets. Gardner is a two-time Pro Bowl selection and is expected to bolster Indianapolis’ secondary, which has been a concern this season.
Despite concerns about Jones’ long-term position as the starting quarterback, Manning believes he deserves a contract extension to secure his future with the team. Many see Jones as a pivotal factor in the Colts’ plans for a deep playoff run this season.
