SANTIAGO, Chile — Ignacia Fernández, a 27-year-old model and vocalist for the death metal band Decessus, was crowned Miss Mundo Chile 2025 during a televised competition on November 9.
Fernández, representing the Las Condes municipality, impressed the judges with her unique talent performance, showcasing her strong guttural singing style. Her performance went viral online, contributing to her status as a favorite in the contest.
“I’m so grateful; I didn’t expect this at all. It’s been many months of preparation, and I appreciate all the support and love I’ve received,” Fernández said after winning the crown. In addition to the title, she received a ring valued at approximately $12 million Chilean pesos.
Fernández will represent Chile at the Miss Mundo competition next year, succeeding Francisca Lavandero. The final event on Sunday also included runner-up Bárbara Wolfenson from Viña del Mar and the top five participants include Karol Eberl, Macarena Maira, and Renata Arriagada.
The rising star expressed her surprise at the positive reactions she has received, mentioning supportive messages from idols such as Amy Lee of Evanescence and System of a Down.
Founded in 2020, Decessus has gained international recognition, performing at festivals in Finland and Germany and opening for prominent bands like Epica and Jinjer. Fernández’s unique position as a beauty queen and metal vocalist is drawing significant media attention.
