Gavin Brindley Colorado Avalanche Contract Extension

DENVER, Colorado — The Colorado Avalanche have signed rookie forward Gavin Brindley to a two-year contract extension less than 48 hours after he played a standout game against the Vancouver Canucks. The deal is worth $850,000 next season if he plays in the NHL, and $900,000 at any level for the 2027-28 season, according to a source familiar with the transaction, who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity.

Brindley, a 21-year-old from Florida, has made an immediate impact since joining the Avalanche, scoring three goals this season, including an overtime winner against Vancouver on November 9. His performance made him the seventh-youngest player in franchise history to score an OT goal.

“I think he can be a top-six forward,” said Avalanche coach Jared Bednar, explaining that Brindley plays bigger than his size. Bednar noted Brindley’s persistence, skill, and mental acuity.

His teammate, Park Kelly, was unaware of the contract extension until Brindley shared the news after practice. “Super happy for him,” Kelly said. “He deserved it. He came into camp, did really well, made his presence known. He’s been playing the right way and has great details to his game.”

Originally drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the second round of the 2023 NHL Draft, Brindley signed his entry-level contract in April 2024 after a successful collegiate career at the University of Michigan, where he produced over a point per game. Last season, he played for the Cleveland Monsters in the AHL.

Brindley reflected on his journey, expressing gratitude for the fresh start in Colorado. “Honestly, I really didn’t know what to think when I got traded, but I feel like it’s good to go through it early and learn from it,” he said.

With 5 points in 14 games this season, Brindley’s contribution is notable as the Avalanche aim for a strong season. He plays on the fourth line alongside linemates Zakhar Bardakov and Kelly, with the trio combining for 20 points this year.
