Kim Kardashian and North West Address Backlash Over Finger Piercings
Los Angeles, CA — Kim Kardashian and her daughter North West have responded to criticism following North’s recent decision to get finger piercings. After a TikTok video by user @mazzy_williams on November 11 expressed concern over North’s piercings, the mother-daughter duo replied two days later on their joint TikTok account, Kim and North. They assured followers with a simple, “It’s okay,” accompanied by a heart hands emoji.
This comment prompted a mix of responses online, with many users defending North. One user remarked, “Not North gentle parenting you,” while another questioned, “How does it affect you like actually?” A third user shared their own experience, saying, “I did my own finger piercing at her age and I turned out great lol.” Others defended Kardashian’s parenting style, arguing that she encourages North to express herself.
The conversation shifted after North, 12, showcased a dermal piercing on TikTok. Kardashian, 45, faced backlash for allowing this body modification, with some critics labeling her an “absentee parent.” North is the eldest child of Kardashian and rapper Kanye West. Concerns about her piercings arose from piercing experts who warned that such modifications might not heal properly due to the nature of hand movements.
This isn’t the first controversy surrounding Kardashian’s parenting. Recently, photos surfaced of Kardashian dining out with her children, including seven-year-old Chicago, who wore dark mauve lipstick. Comments from fans noted the inconsistency with West’s previous stance against makeup for young children. In 2018, North wore bold red lipstick, prompting discussions on social media about appropriate parenting.
Kardashian later acknowledged the change in her perspective on makeup for children, stating in January 2024, “Would I do that now? Probably not.” She emphasized that while she supports North’s style choices, she also considers her younger children’s age when making parenting decisions.
