LOS ANGELES, CA — The creator of ABC’s hit series The Rookie, Alexi Hawley, has confirmed that a spinoff series is in active development. During an interview with Deadline on May 13, 2025, Hawley provided an update on the potential project, which is set in Washington state and follows a male police officer entering a new phase of life.

Hawley, who is also the executive producer of The Rookie, mentioned that he has been working on script revisions and is optimistic about the project. “There’s a script, I’ve been doing some drafts and getting some notes,” he said. “You know me, I’m a hopeful person… So let’s see.”

Craig Erwich, the president of Disney Television Group that oversees ABC, was asked about the spinoff’s status but shared no new details. “I don’t have any news to share right now,” he commented.

In addition to The Rookie and the spinoff, titled The Rookie: Feds, Hawley also created the Netflix spy thriller The Recruit, which recently concluded after two seasons. The show featured Noah Centineo as Owen Hendricks, a CIA lawyer whose storyline may be revisited according to Hawley. “It’s still early days… I still am passionate about that world and would love to revisit at some point,” he shared.

The recent season of The Rookie frequently references the term “chaos agent,” which fans recognized as a nickname from The Recruit. Hawley implied that this connection is intentional, noting that “Chaos Agent” was an early title considered for his show before it had to change due to competition with another Netflix project, The Night Agent.

Thus, the development of the spinoff and potential plans for The Recruit indicate that Hawley is keen on expanding the storytelling universe established in both series. As fans await further news, the connected narratives continue to intrigue the audience.
