The Acolyte Disney+ Series

The much-talked-about series, ‘The Acolyte‘, has been officially canceled after just one season on Disney+. This show, which took a look at the rise of the Sith about a century before ‘Star Wars: The Phantom Menace‘, won’t be coming back for round two.

Despite its cliffhanger finale that hinted at numerous storylines for a potential Season 2, the show struggled with mixed reviews from fans and dropped viewership since its premiere back in June.

Creator Leslye Headland, known for her work on ‘Russian Doll’, aimed to explore the Star Wars universe outside the main timeline. The plot followed twins Osha and Mae, played by Amandla Stenberg, who believed they had lost each other as children. The show challenged the ideal image of the Jedi, featuring complex characters and morally gray decisions.

While some viewers appreciated the fresh perspective, others criticized it for straying too far from the traditional good-versus-evil narrative of Star Wars. The series also faced considerable backlash, being review-bombed by a section of viewers unhappy with its diverse casting choices.

Nevertheless, ‘The Acolyte’ managed to garner a following, particularly with its plot twists, like the reveal of Manny Jacinto‘s character as a Sith warrior influencing Mae’s decisions. Stunt scenes and character dynamics became topics of discussion across social media platforms.

With the cancellation of ‘The Acolyte’, fans are looking ahead to Lucasfilm’s next offering for Disney+, ‘Skeleton Crew‘, set to debut on December 3. Meanwhile, the second and final season of ‘Andor‘ is already in development and expected to release in 2025.
