Christopher Rich Happy's Place Tattoo Artist

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — After nearly a decade away from acting, Christopher Rich is making a triumphant return to the screen in NBC’s new sitcom, “Happy's Place.” The show premiered to over 17 million viewers on February 20, 2025, bringing Rich back into the spotlight following his recovery from a debilitating stroke in 2018.

Rich, who previously starred alongside Reba McEntire for six seasons on the early-2000s sitcom “Reba,” portrayed tattoo artist Maverick in the series. In a recent episode, Rich expressed his doubts about returning to acting, stating, “I’ve basically taken the last decade off.” He credited McEntire for urging him to join the cast, saying, “If anybody was going to drag me out of the dark corner of the closet, it would be the redhead.”

The stroke left Rich with significant physical challenges, including limited mobility on his left side and difficulty walking. However, through extensive rehab and physical therapy, he regained most of his motor functions. Rich said the team at “Happy’s Place” created a supportive environment that helped him feel safe to perform again. “They made it a place where I could trot my broken body out again,” he mentioned during an interview.

Rich revealed how McEntire and co-star Melissa Peterman supported him throughout his recovery. “They would invite me to parties and reunion events, even coming to my hospital bed,” he recalled. “Melissa used to bring me treats all the time in the hospital.”

His journey back to the screen has been rewarding. Fans welcomed his character, Maverick, with open arms, celebrating the reunion with McEntire. “It’s incredible to see the two friends back on-screen together again,” a spokesperson for NBC stated.

Rich described the last few years as a “long journey” that tested his perseverance. “I’m gonna get to the finish line,” he asserted. “I may have to limp across it, but I’m getting there.” The encouraging response has revitalized his passion for acting.
