PHOENIX, Ariz. — Actor Peter Navy Tuiasosopo, best known for his roles in films such as ‘Street Fighter‘ and ‘Necessary Roughness,’ passed away on Monday at the age of 61 due to heart complications, as confirmed by his son Manoah Peter Tuiasosopo.

In a heartfelt statement shared on social media, Manoah expressed the family’s gratitude for the support received during this difficult time. “With a heavy heart, my family and I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. Our father Peter N. Tuiasosopo passed away this morning at 3:16 a.m.,” he wrote.

Manoah reminisced about his father’s remarkable life and legacy, stating, “My dad lived an amazing life and in no way does his impact stop here. We will continue to live with him in spirit.” He also reflected on his father’s joyous reunion with loved ones in heaven, adding that Tuiasosopo was “no longer in pain.”

Born on May 24, 1965, in San Pedro, California, Tuiasosopo originally pursued a career in football, signing with the Los Angeles Rams‘ replacement team in 1987. He later transitioned to acting, making his film debut as Manumana in the 1991 sports comedy ‘Necessary Roughness.’

Over the years, he appeared in a variety of notable projects including ‘Street Fighter,’ in which he famously portrayed E. Honda. His other film credits include ‘The Fast and the Furious,’ ‘12 Rounds,’ ‘Batman & Robin,’ ‘Charlie’s Angels,’ and ‘The Scorpion King.’

In television, Tuiasosopo had a recurring role in ‘New Girl‘ as Big Bob and made guest appearances on popular shows like ‘NCIS,’ ‘Black-ish,’ and ‘Hawaii,’ where he played the character Kaleo.

Manoah, in his social media post, mentioned that the Tuiasosopo family is working on plans for a celebration of life. “We will discuss the decisions regarding a proper Celebration of Life and will announce the details once prepared,” he said.

The family has expressed their gratitude towards fans and friends for the continual support they have received during this challenging period.

Tuiasosopo’s passing has elicited tributes from fans and colleagues alike, with many praising his contributions as a trailblazer for Polynesian actors in Hollywood. One fan wrote, “Beyond heartbroken! No words I can say at this. Sad, sad day,” while another shared that he was “one of the best ever.”
