Aimee Lou Wood Passes on Drag Race UK Judging Role

LOS ANGELES, CA — Aimee Lou Wood, well known for her roles in ‘The White Lotus‘ and ‘Sex Education,’ revealed she turned down an opportunity to be a guest judge on ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race UK‘ in 2023. Wood’s commitment to the acclaimed musical ‘Cabaret‘ led to her disappointing decision.
In a recent interview with PinkNews, Wood, 30, expressed her eagerness to participate in the highly popular competition show. ‘There’s only a few things in my life that I wanted to do, and be a judge on Drag Race and Cabaret,’ she said. ‘I got Cabaret… I got offered to do UK Drag Race and I missed it because I was rehearsing for Cabaret, so I need to get my opportunity again. I have to get it again.’
Wood starred as leading lady Sally Bowles in ‘Cabaret,’ part of the West End production from February to May 2023. She did not specify which season she was invited to judge, but it could likely relate to either Season 5 or ‘Drag Race UK vs. The World’ Season 2 as she was busy rehearsing at that time.
Expressing her passion for the show, Wood remarked previously in 2023, ‘I’m an Aquarius, I don’t set goals in my life. I just go with it. But the only two things I’ve ever said I wanted were to be a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race and play Sally Bowles in Cabaret.’
With her recent role in ‘The White Lotus’ as bubbly Brit Chelsea, Wood has accomplished two of her three main career aspirations. Her portrayal has garnered significant attention, making her one of the standout characters in the show’s third season.
‘If there’s ever a time to get her on Drag Race, it’s now,’ fans urge.
In the same interview, Wood noted how her experience has evolved throughout her career. Her involvement in ‘The White Lotus,’ now airing Sundays on HBO in the U.S. and Mondays in the UK on Sky Atlantic, has added to her expanding repertoire in both television and theater.
Reflecting on her time filming ‘The White Lotus,’ she stated, ‘I am not the same person as I was pre-White Lotus. I had a lot of reckonings out there. I realized how important my anchors are in life.’
As Wood navigates her burgeoning career, she maintains hopes of returning to ‘Drag Race’ as a judge, eager to make that dream a reality.
