Aimee Lou Wood Interview Portrait

Fitzrovia, London — Aimee Lou Wood, the 31-year-old actress known for her role in HBO‘s critically acclaimed series ‘The White Lotus,’ recently shared insights into her whirlwind experience filming the show in Thailand. Fresh off a 24-hour trip from Los Angeles for a photoshoot, Wood appeared both exhausted and exhilarated as she discussed the profound impact the series has had on her life.

While Wood earned acclaim for portraying Chelsea, the upbeat girlfriend of character Rick, played by Walton Goggins, she revealed that the show’s success has brought about significant challenges for her. “I have resistance to the buzz. I’ll stay at home and I won’t go to the party because I’m scared that I can’t handle my feelings of being overwhelmed,” she admitted during our conversation.

Wood described her experience on the show as a unique blend of excitement and stress. Filming over a seven-month period at the Four Seasons in Koh Samui left her craving normalcy. “The thing that I craved the most was a kitchen. I wanted to be able to walk to the shops and buy groceries and make food,” she explained. “I started to feel like I was in The Sims.”

The actress also reflected on the camaraderie among cast members, suggesting they formed a close-knit group, often slipping into method acting without realizing it. “There was a bit of leakage. We were all accidentally method. It has happened every season. Everyone has lost their marbles a little bit,” Wood said, chuckling at the memory.

During her time in Thailand, Wood described moments of joy that offset the intense filming schedule. She recalled a beach outing with her co-stars where they howled at the moon, highlighting the special bond they created through shared experiences. Despite the challenges, she embraced the opportunity and the landscape’s beauty. “I will never have an experience like that again,” she said.

Wood, who is also addressing her own mental health struggles, shared details of her ADHD diagnosis, stating, “I got diagnosed a few years ago with ADHD with autistic traits. They think that maybe it’s autism that’s leading the charge, and the ADHD is almost a by-product of the masking.” She applauded the significance of discussing mental health openly within her profession.

The actress expressed her passion for her character, stating that Chelsea embodies a side of her personality she often suppresses. “She’s just experiencing. So I can just unmask in a weird way,” Wood noted, underscoring her affinity for the role. The emotional complexity of filming scenes, including intimate moments, was made more manageable thanks to the support of her co-stars.

As she anticipates the finale of ‘The White Lotus’ airing on April 7, Wood admitted to feeling nervous. “I’m scared to watch it, actually. Because even though I know what happens, seeing it out will be a lot,” she said. Her openness about her journey reflects a blend of vulnerability and resilience that has resonated with her audience, making her one of the most relatable stars in contemporary television.
