Air India Express Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Bengaluru After Engine Fire
An Air India Express flight destined for Kochi from Bengaluru had to make an emergency landing at the Bengaluru airport on May 18th, following a fire in one of its engines, as reported by the Press Trust of India (PTI).
The Air India Express statement confirmed that all passengers and crew were safely evacuated with no injuries reported.
The incident occurred shortly after takeoff when a fire was noticed in one of the engines, prompting the crew to initiate the emergency landing procedures.
The Air Traffic Controller was immediately informed, leading to the declaration of a full-scale emergency response at the Kempegowda International Airport.
Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL), operated by the Karnataka State Government, managed the emergency situation at the airport.
A spokesperson from BIAL stated that the emergency landing took place at 11:12 pm local time, with all 179 passengers and six crew members successfully evacuated from the aircraft.
The Air India Express spokesperson mentioned that a detailed investigation in collaboration with the regulatory authorities will be conducted to determine the root cause of the engine fire.
