Brandon Aiyuk Injury Update San Francisco 49ers

Santa Clara, California — The San Francisco 49ers are facing uncertainty regarding the return of wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who is recovering from a severe knee injury sustained last season. Head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to reporters on Wednesday, sharing updates on Aiyuk’s condition.

Aiyuk has been on the Physically Unable to Perform list since July and his return date remains unclear. Although Shanahan expressed confidence that Aiyuk will eventually open up his practice window, he indicated that the timing of this event is still week-to-week.

“I’m pretty confident that he is going to eventually [open up his practice window],” Shanahan said. “We talk about it being week-to-week right now, so still waiting until he is ready.”

The 49ers have previously allowed players to return to practice without activating them from the injured list. Once a practice window is open, the team has 21 days to decide whether to activate the player or place them on season-ending injured reserve.

San Francisco currently holds a 6-3 record and is eyeing a playoff spot. With Aiyuk’s potential return, his presence could be crucial for the team’s offense, especially as they look to boost their scoring and support their struggling defense.

Shanahan also touched on other injury updates, including quarterback Brock Purdy, who has been dealing with a toe injury, and various other players who are coping with limitations in practice.

The 49ers’ next game will be against the Los Angeles Rams, who are also navigating injury issues. Rams coach Sean McVay confirmed that wide receiver Puka Nacua is expected to play, despite a rib injury.

As the season progresses, fans remain hopeful for Aiyuk’s eventual return, seeing him as a vital piece of the 49ers’ playoff pursuit.
