Akshay Kumar‘s latest film ‘Sarfira‘, a Hindi remake of the Tamil hit ‘Soorarai Pottru‘, hit the big screen on Friday with expectations running high. However, despite the anticipation, the film experienced a lackluster opening day at the box office.

Early estimates suggest that ‘Sarfira’ managed to earn around Rs 2.40 crore net in India on its debut day, signifying a slower start compared to what was expected.

The film saw a gradual increase in occupancy throughout the day, with morning shows starting at around 7.03%, evening shows improving slightly to 13.72%, and night shows peaking at 20.24%.

Akshay Kumar, who has had several recent box office disappointments with films like ‘Mission Raniganj’, ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan‘, ‘Selfiee’, and ‘Ram Setu’, was looking for a strong comeback with ‘Sarfira’. Unfortunately, the first-day figures place it among his lowest opening day collections in recent times.

‘Sarfira’ faced tough competition from Kamal Haasan‘s ‘Indian 2‘, which managed an impressive Rs 26 crore nett opening in India. The gross collections of ‘Indian 2’ are expected to be between Rs 30-31 crore, with the Hindi dubbed version bringing in around Rs 1.25 crore.

Directed by Sudha Kongara, who also directed the original film, ‘Sarfira’ features a talented cast including Radhika Madan, Paresh Rawal, Seema Biswas, and a guest appearance by Suriya. The movie tells the inspiring story of Captain Gopinath, the pioneer behind India’s first low-cost airline, and his significant impact on Indian aviation.
