Ali Wong Bill Hader Comedy Special

Ali Wong, the comedian and actress known for her roles in “Always Be My Maybe” and “American Housewife,” has candidly shared details about her relationship with fellow comedian and actor Bill Hader. Wong opened up about her romance during her latest stand-up comedy special “Ali Wong: Single Lady,” which premiered on Netflix. The pair have reportedly been a steady couple since April 2023, following a brief dating period in the fall of 2022.

In her comedy special, Wong reflected on the initial stages of their relationship, humorously describing the period after her divorce as a time when she was focused on “getting d—ed down.” She elaborated on the challenges of finding a partner who is talented, humorous, and shares a genuine connection. “That seemed impossible,” she admitted.

Wong’s revelation came with humor as she recalled a phone call from a mutual acquaintance who passed Hader’s confession of admiration. “Hey, Ali, I just happened to hear the news of your divorce today, and I gotta tell you, I’m excited,” she remembered Hader saying. His bold declaration led to a series of romantic gestures, starting with sending flowers to Wong across various European cities while she was on tour.

Wong’s tour through Europe included stops in London, Amsterdam, Cologne, and Copenhagen, with Hader’s floral gifts growing in extravagance at each destination. “I told all my girlfriends, and they were like, ‘Oh my God, that is so sweet. I am so jealous,'” Wong shared. She noted different reactions from male friends who playfully questioned Hader’s grand gestures as peculiar.

The comedian also reflected on how media attention following her divorce inadvertently acted like a “Bat-Signal,” alerting potential suitors of her availability. Wong expressed initial embarrassment by the public airing of her personal life but appreciated the attention that followed.

Both Wong and Hader were previously married, with Wong’s marriage to entrepreneur Justin Hakuta ending in 2022. They share two daughters, Mari and Nikki. Hader was married to filmmaker Maggie Carey, with whom he has three daughters, Hayley, Hannah, and Harper.

“Ali Wong: Single Lady,” which includes these personal anecdotes and more, is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
