Alice Cooper Launches UK Tour with Energetic Performance in Glasgow
Alice Cooper, an iconic figure in rock and roll, captivated audiences at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on the first night of his latest UK tour. Known for his theatrical performances, Cooper remained true to form, donning a top hat and leather outfit while wielding a sword as he opened with the song ‘Welcome To The Show.’
Despite the passage of decades, Cooper’s energy and charismatic stage presence continue to impress. His performance was enhanced by guitarist Nita Strauss, whose dynamic style added a metallic edge to the concert, which showcased a powerful three-guitar attack that resonated throughout the arena.
Unlike Cooper’s elaborate 1970s spectacles, the focus during this tour was less on theatrical set pieces and more on the performer himself. Notable acts included a mock guillotine beheading, the appearance of a giant Frankenstein’s monster, and his playful interaction with props such as canes, crutches, and live snakes.
Throughout the show, Cooper’s setlist celebrated his career, featuring tracks from his most recent album, ‘Road,’ released in 2023, as well as hits from the 1980s and 1990s. Fans delighted in hearing classics such as ‘Under My Wheels,’ ‘The Ballad Of Dwight Fry,’ and the anthem ’18.’
The night reached a high point when Cooper closed with ‘School’s Out,’ leaving the audience on a rousing note. His introduction of the band at the end of the concert, followed by declaring, “…and playing the part of Alice Cooper tonight… ME!” drew an enthusiastic response from the crowd.
Supporting Cooper on this tour were Scottish rockers Primal Scream and the Britpunk duo The Meffs. Primal Scream started with newer material, gradually building momentum with their driving rhythms, culminating in an engaging finale with ‘Movin’ On Up’ and ‘Rocks.’ For The Meffs, performing in such a large venue was a new experience, but their spirited punk sound managed to win over concertgoers, delivering an unforgettable performance.
