Alison Roman Launches New Cookbook ‘Something From Nothing’
NEW YORK, N.Y. — Chef and food writer Alison Roman has released her fourth cookbook, “Something From Nothing,” which focuses on creating delicious meals using pantry staples. The book promotes the idea that cooking doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive, encouraging readers to use what they already have.
In her introduction, Roman writes, “Nothing gives me more pleasure than rooting around the cans and tins of a dimly-lit kitchen and emerging with the best tomato soup of my life.” She emphasizes the importance of practicality and creativity in the kitchen, suggesting that beautiful meals can be prepared with minimal ingredients.
With this new collection, Roman showcases recipes that require few components and aim to simplify the cooking process. From brothy soups to hearty stews, each dish is designed to bring joy while allowing flexibility for personal adaptations.
Roman’s past experiences, including her rise to fame through viral recipes during the pandemic, inform her approach in this book. She believes that cooking should foster creativity rather than follow strict rules. “Some of my best work has come from doing a fridge clean-out meal,” Roman stated.
Throughout the book, Roman includes her signature unpretentious style, encouraging readers to enjoy the tiny miracles of cooking without unnecessary complications. The emphasis is on using ingredients like canned tomatoes, preserved lemons, and pasta to create comforting and satisfying dishes.
Available now, “Something From Nothing” is a reflection of Roman’s evolution both as a chef and a person, now also including insights from her recent experiences as a new mother.
