Amazon MGM Acquires Global Rights for The Beekeeper 2

LOS ANGELES, CA – Amazon MGM has secured worldwide distribution rights to the sequel of The Beekeeper in a deal valued at over $50 million. The film, titled The Beekeeper 2, is slated to begin production this fall, with Jason Statham reprising his role.
Timo Tjahjanto, known for directing Nobody 2, is set to helm the sequel, working from a script by Umair Aleem. The production is being handled by Miramax, which also negotiated the deal with Amazon.
The original movie, directed by David Ayer, followed a retired covert operative seeking vengeance after a phishing scam defrauds his landlady out of charitable funds. The Beekeeper grossed approximately $163 million worldwide, attracting significant attention from international distributors.
The Beekeeper 2 is anticipated to be released in theaters across key markets. There is speculation that it might be one of the first movies launched through Amazon’s emerging international theatrical venture.
Patrick Wachsberger, a significant figure in the film industry, indicates that this type of arrangement will likely become more frequent as Miramax shifts away from in-house international sales, aiming for broader distribution.
In addition to Statham, the sequel’s production team includes Chris Long and Kurt Wimmer. The project marks yet another collaboration between Statham and Amazon, following his success in the film A Working Man, which has earned $98 million at the box office since its March release.
