AMC To Expand Dolby Cinema Footprint by 40 Locations by 2027

LAS VEGAS, March 31, 2025 — AMC Entertainment and Dolby Laboratories revealed plans to expand their partnership, announcing the addition of 40 Dolby Cinema locations across the United States by the end of 2027.
This expansion will result in a nearly 25% increase in Dolby Cinema auditoriums, bringing the total to more than 200. The announcement coincided with the opening of CinemaCon, a major industry conference that highlights trends and innovations in film and exhibition.
Dolby Cinema is known for its combination of Dolby Vision, which offers ultra-vivid picture quality, and Dolby Atmos, which provides an immersive audio experience. The addition of new theaters, according to company officials, will enhance moviegoers’ experiences, making blockbusters more engaging and appealing.
“For a decade, AMC and Dolby have provided moviegoers with incredible premium experiences — making the biggest blockbusters even bigger, brighter, louder, and more immersive,” said Adam Aron, Chairman and CEO of AMC Entertainment. “The expansion of this partnership is a powerful demonstration of AMC’s ongoing commitment to deliver this premium experience — sought out by filmmakers, studio partners, and our guests — to even more of our theaters and AMC moviegoers around the United States.”
Dolby Cinema’s growth comes as theater chains increasingly invest in specialized and large-format viewing experiences. Kevin Yeaman, President and CEO of Dolby Laboratories, noted this evolution in the industry, stating, “Premium moviegoing is defining the modern box office. In expanding our longstanding partnership with AMC, we look forward to providing even more audiences with access to the most immersive film experiences that you can only get at Dolby Cinema.”
The timing of this announcement is significant. Dolby Cinema reported its strongest box office performance in history in 2024, surpassing previous records set in 2023. This surge is attributed largely to a robust content pipeline that includes over 725 films confirmed for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
Upcoming releases slated for Dolby Cinema include highly anticipated titles such as “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning,” “Karate Kid: Legends,” “F1,” “Jurassic World Rebirth,” and “Avatar: Fire and Ash.” According to the companies, 49 of the top 50 films from the last five years showed in Dolby Cinema.
The expansion not only reflects AMC’s commitment to premium experiences but also underscores the growing demand for high-quality film formats among audiences. The partnership promises to enhance the moviegoing experience, potentially attracting more viewers to theaters at a time when competition with streaming services remains fierce.
