American Airlines Q3 2024 Financial Results

American Airlines Group Inc. (NASDAQ: AAL) has released its financial results for the third quarter of 2024, highlighting several key achievements despite facing some challenges. The airline reported a record revenue of $13.6 billion, marking a 1.2% increase from the same period last year.

Although the company posted a net loss of $149 million, or $0.23 per share, excluding special items, the net income was $205 million, or $0.30 per diluted share. This performance indicates a mixed bag for the airline, with revenue growth but also significant expenses.

American Airlines led U.S. network carriers in completion factor, a metric that measures the reliability and efficiency of flight operations. The airline ended the third quarter with $11.8 billion in total liquidity, a strong financial position. Additionally, the company reduced its total debt by $360 million during the quarter.

The airline has updated its full-year 2024 adjusted EPS guidance to a range of $1.35 to $1.60, and for the fourth quarter of 2024, the adjusted EPS is expected to be between $0.25 and $0.50. This revised outlook reflects the company’s optimism about its future performance.

The financial results have had a positive impact on American Airlines’ stock, which rallied following the earnings report. The airline’s best load factor in more than 10 years also contributed to the stock’s upward movement.
