American Dad! Set to Return to Fox in Multi-Season Deal

LOS ANGELES, CA — Fox Entertainment is nearing a deal to bring back the popular animated sitcom “American Dad!” which originally premiered on the network in 2005. Sources confirm that 20th Television Animation is involved in the negotiations, and the potential agreement could include multiple seasons, reviving the series’s run after it transitioned to TBS in 2014.

This exciting news comes on the heels of “American Dad!” preparing to air its final original episodes on TBS, where it has aired for the past decade. Reruns will continue on TBS and other Warner Bros. Discovery outlets, including Adult Swim and TruTV, until at least 2030.

Since 2021, “American Dad!” has enjoyed a two-season renewal on TBS, following the merger of Warner Bros. Discovery. However, with its original programming concluding as part of the network’s current strategy under CEO David Zaslav, a return to Fox aligns with the network’s efforts to enrich its animation slate.

Created by Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker, and Matt Weitzman, “American Dad!” has generated nearly 400 episodes to date. The show centers on the life of Stan Smith, a staunchly patriotic CIA agent, portrayed by MacFarlane himself. Alongside Stan are his family members, including Francine, his wife (voiced by Wendy Schaal); their progressive daughter Hayley (Rachael MacFarlane); their socially awkward son Steve (Scott Grimes); and the quick-witted alien Roger (also voiced by MacFarlane), who adds a unique humor to the Smith household.

The impending return to Fox would mark the second time MacFarlane’s series has made a comeback on the network—“Family Guy” was also rebooted after its initial cancellation due to high DVD sales and syndication popularity. Sources suggest that “American Dad!” will likely slot back into Fox’s “Animation Domination” lineup, which boasts iconic series such as “The Simpsons,” “Family Guy,” and “Bob’s Burgers.”
