Howard Grosfield, President of U.S. Consumer Services at American Express, stated, “We’re going to take these Cards to a new level, not only in what they offer in travel, dining, and lifestyle benefits but also in how they look and feel to meet the evolving needs of our customers.” This will be the largest investment in a card refresh in the company’s history.
This announcement follows JPMorgan Chase’s hints at updates to its Sapphire Reserve card, which competes directly with the Platinum. The Sapphire card currently has a $550 annual fee, but speculation includes a possible hike to $795. A spokesperson from JPMorgan Chase declined to comment on these potential changes.
According to recent surveys, consumers are shifting preferences in credit card rewards. While 70% of Americans value cash back, only 33% of premium card users favor it. This indicates a strong inclination toward points and travel rewards among higher-end cardholders.
