FX’s ‘American Love Story’ Casts Sarah Pidgeon as Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — FX has announced that actress Sarah Pidgeon will portray Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy in its upcoming anthology series, ‘American Love Story.’ This series, a continuation of the ‘American Crime Story’ franchise, will focus on the tumultuous romance between Bessette-Kennedy and John F. Kennedy Jr.
Pidgeon, known for her roles in ‘The Wilds‘ and ‘Tiny Beautiful Things,’ was cast amidst ongoing discussions about who will play JFK Jr. As the couple’s narrative unfolds, the series will explore their union, often characterized as a modern fairy tale that faced immense media scrutiny following their marriage in 1996.
Bessette, a publicist for Calvin Klein, first met Kennedy in 1992, while he was dating actress Daryl Hannah. Their relationship blossomed amid the pressures of public attention, culminating in a marriage that ultimately succumbed to the weight of constant media surveillance and personal challenges.
The first season of ‘American Love Story’ intends to portray the couple’s lives, from their glamorous beginnings to the tragic conclusion when their plane crashed in 1999, leading to their untimely deaths alongside Bessette’s sister.
Executive producer Ryan Murphy, alongside Brad Simpson, Nina Jacobson, D.V. DiVencentis, and Connor Hines, promises to deliver an intimate look at the pressures faced by the couple. Jacobson previously mentioned the series would resonate with younger audiences who view Bessette as an iconic but elusive figure.
The production has still not finalized casting for JFK Jr., though auditions are underway. As audiences await additional news, many anticipate how the series will portray this deeply scrutinized love story.
Pidgeon’s performance is already anticipated as a breakout role, building on her accolades from stage and screen. Having earned a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University, she has been recognized for her talent in various productions, including a Tony nomination for her role in ‘Stereophonic.’
As filming progresses, fans and critics alike look forward to how ‘American Love Story’ will faithfully represent this narrative while exploring themes of fame, love, and tragedy.
