American Pickers” Star Frank Fritz Passes Away at 60
Frank Fritz, renowned for his role in “American Pickers,” has passed away at the age of 60. Representatives from the History Channel and Cineflix Productions confirmed his death in a joint statement to USA TODAY. Fritz, who filmed for the popular series “American Pickers” for over a decade, died from complications related to a stroke while in hospice care.
In the statement, the History Channel expressed their condolences, remembering Fritz as “the bearded charmer” for his endless quest for vintage motorcycles and bikes. Known for his extensive knowledge of Americana and antiques, Fritz was seen as an essential figure both on and off screen. His long-time representative, Bill Stankey, referred to him as “an exceptional human being” who had a passion for life and people.
The series “American Pickers,” debuting in 2010, quickly became a staple on the History Channel. It follows antique hunters traveling across the country in search of hidden treasures. Fritz shared the limelight with co-star Mike Wolfe, who also mourned his loss, describing Fritz as “a dreamer” and “sensitive as he was funny” on social media.
Fritz’s departure from the show surprised many viewers when he suddenly stopped appearing during its 21st season. Subsequently replaced by Rob Wolfe, Mike Wolfe’s brother, Fritz’s exit came amid rumors of a rift with his co-star. Mike Wolfe previously addressed these rumors, emphasizing a hope for reconciliation during Fritz’s health challenges. Both Wolfe and Fritz were able to revive their friendship before Fritz’s passing, though not publicly seen together since 2020.
Fritz had been battling several health issues, including Crohn’s disease, a severe autoimmune disorder that affects the digestive tract. Despite the disease not being directly life-threatening, its complications can significantly impact quality of life. His manager, Bill Stankey, acknowledged Fritz’s struggles with health and addiction in recent years.
A former host of “American Pickers,” Mike Wolfe shared heartfelt memories of their early endeavors on social media, expressing deep sorrow and gratitude for having shared so many adventures with him. “We’ve been on countless trips and shared so many miles,” Wolfe noted, reflective of the time spent exploring and sourcing antiques.
