Andra Day Delivers Powerful ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’ Performance at Super Bowl LVIII Pregame Ceremony
Andra Day captivated the audience with her stirring rendition of ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing‘ at the pregame ceremony of Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium.
The Grammy-winning artist, Andra Day, took the stage before the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers kicked off their game.
With a powerful performance of the hymn often referred to as the Black National Anthem, Day paid homage to the original poem by James Weldon Johnson dating back to 1900.
Accompanied by backup singers, Day’s soaring vocals and harmonies filled the stadium with a sense of inspiration and unity.
Day, dressed in an oversized blazer and matching trousers, delivered the song with grace and passion, wearing her iconic red braids styled elegantly.
Ahead of her performance, Day participated in a conversation with fellow Super Bowl performers, Usher, Reba McEntire, and Post Malone, led by Nadeska Alexis of CBS.
Discussing the significance of ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing,’ Day expressed that singing this anthem was both an honor and an intentional act for her.
She emphasized that the song symbolizes triumph and peace, aiming to convey a message of victory and unity to her audience.
Day also shared her aspirations for a future where all people feel represented and loved through anthems that celebrate diversity.
In addition to Day’s performance, Post Malone sang ‘America the Beautiful,’ while Reba McEntire opened the Super Bowl ceremony.
Usher will take the stage as the headliner for the Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show, adding to the star-studded musical lineup.
